Building Homes and Community: Grand Opening of The Oaks

This past week, The Cowan Foundation with representatives from Cowan Insurance Group were proud to attend the official Grand Opening of The Oaks, an affordable supportive housing project launched by Indwell Community Homes at the former Royal Oak Dairy site in Hamilton.

In 2019, The Cowan Foundation was one of the first donors to support this project. We saw the vision three years ago for an inclusive and holistic approach to support the whole person in providing affordable housing to those living in poverty.

The Foundation has always sought out partners in the community that share our company values of innovation, collaboration, inclusiveness and sustainability. The Oaks has done this by providing 108 affordable supportive homes in three state-of-the-art sustainable buildings, including the new home of Sacajawea Non-Profit Housing. Thirteen of the units being operated by Sacajawea Non-Profit Housing are called Ain-dah-ning, which means “home within our hearts” in Ojibwe, and are allocated to Indigenous families and individuals in need.

The Foundation is proud to be associated with so many organizations that believe in the work Indwell is doing in communities across Ontario.
