Making Waves in Woodstock: 400 Aquatic Plants

On May 24, 2025, The Cowan Foundation hosted a Pop-Up Community Action Day at the Former Cedar Creek Downs Golf Course in Woodstock, Ontario, bringing together 60 volunteers to support a meaningful environmental initiative in partnership with the City of Woodstock.

Employees from Cowan Insurance Group and Princeton Holdings Ltd., representing offices in Cambridge, Brantford, Woodstock, Hamilton, and Paris, were joined by their families and friends to plant approximately 400 aquatic plants. Their efforts contribute to a long-term restoration project that will see the former golf course transformed into a flourishing natural habitat and future expansion of Southside Park.

Throughout the morning, volunteers worked together to plant around the site’s pond beds and had the opportunity to tour the area with city staff, learning about the broader ecological goals of the project. The event was designed to be family-friendly and educational, offering participants a hands-on way to contribute to the health and sustainability of their local environment.

The Cowan Foundation’s Community Action Days are held throughout the year and are part of a broader initiative to encourage employee volunteerism and support impactful projects across Ontario.
